LRMC is pleased to announce that Lakeland Regional Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Clinic is home to three certified lymphedema therapists (CLT). Kelley Giovannucci, PTA, CLT and Rizwana Mir, PT, CLT join Luz Rivera, PT, CLT as among those certified.
People who have undergone surgery, lymph node removal, traumatic injury or burns can be at risk for lymphedema or swelling caused by the abnormal buildup of fluid, which can result in a feeling of heaviness, pain and a decline in mobility. Venous insufficiency caused by cardiac conditions, diabetes and obesity can also lead to lymphedema.
LRMC’s certified lymphedema therapists help patients better manage their symptoms through highly specialized Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Lakeland Regional is one of the area’s only lymphedema centers to provide onsite compression garment fitting. Lymphedema patients also benefit from one-on-one aquatic therapy, which can aid in the movement of lymph, decrease pain and strengthen muscle.
Lakeland Regional offers two aquatic therapy pools, HydroWorx® and SwimEx®, with different features to meet the diverse needs of our patients. Adjustable floor height, underwater treadmills and massage jets are just some of the tools that ensure optimal recovery for reducing pain and swelling, increasing mobility, and improving strength. We also offer athletic training in our SwimEx pool, which provides a controllable water-flow current for resistance training.
