LRMC Nurses to Present Posters at Conference

Wednesday, March 3 2010

Two Lakeland Regional Medical Center Nurses have had poster presentations accepted for the 7th Annual Florida Magnet Research Conference in Naples in February.  Lauren Yon, RN, BSN, is a Trauma Intensive Care Nurse and Kerri Gambrell, RN, is a Clinical Resource Nurse on B5.

Lauren’s presentation is titled “Integrating Mobility into the Plan of Care in the Intensive Care Unit.”  Through her thesis, Lauren conveyed the importance of mobilizing stable ICU patients, and how that can improve patient outcomes and help to limit the deconditioning caused by immobility.  As a result of this focus, a survey to analyze mobility has been created and accepted by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center with plans to utilize the survey to further contribute to current nursing research.

Kerri’s presentation is titled “Action Plan to Decrease Blood Culture Contamination Rates in the Medical Intensive Care Unit.”  Through her leadership and desire to provide better outcomes for critically ill patients, she helped create improved techniques that resulted in increased awareness and accountability among the nurses in the MICU.

The conference is provided by University of South Florida Health, Florida Organization of Nurse Executives and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.  The goal of the conference is to provide participants with knowledge related to feasible and relevant strategies to integrate research findings and evidence into practice and to enhance organizational strategies for sustaining environments supportive of research and evidence-based practice.  Presentations were selected on the basis of scientific merit by means of blind review.
