Lakeland Regional Health Systems’ chief information officer Mary Ford was recently featured in a question-and-answer article published by the Institute for Health Technology Transformation (IHT2) Weekly Digest. The article recognized Ford’s role in creating a formal I.T. governance structure, project management office, security office, robust enterprise architecture and a five-year strategy for Information Services. IHT2 Editorial Director Joseph F. Jalkiewicz’s questions to Ford focused on her effective leadership during significant technological changes at Lakeland Regional, as well as the health system’s strategic approach when moving forward with state-of-the-art technology advances.
“We have something called Smart Lean where the first step is to look and listen. For example, we can have nurses from maternity come and say these are the five things we really need. But before we do anything, I go up to delivery and spend days watching and listening,” said Ford. “Then we ask, ‘Is there a technology we can use to change this?’ If that answer is no, we reconsider. If the answer is yes, we kick off a project. It’s a very standardized process. We’ve used it to improve our ER throughput.”
As Lakeland Regional continues to implement new technologies for improved patient and family care, we are proud of Ford’s experience, knowledge and leadership.
