LRCC Launches New Clinical Trial
Wednesday, March 3 2010
Lakeland Regional Cancer Center is launching a new clinical trial for patients with colon cancer, and is the first location in the U.S. to offer the trial. LRCC will be enrolling subjects in a the study to collect a sample of blood from subjects with colon cancer. The blood collected in this clinical study will be used to further optimize the biomarker mSEPT9 test created by Epigenomics, a cancer molecular diagnostic company. Blood samples will also be submitted for future regulatory approvals in the United States and elsewhere.
Dr. Helen Chan is the Principle Investigator for LRCC. The study is currently using blood from patients over 50 years of age already diagnosed with colorectal cancer before they have any surgical or medical treatment. They cannot have a personal or first-degree relative (parent, sibling, child) history of colorectal cancer. LRCC staff will collect blood one time from each patient.
