Lakeland Regional Medical Center’s laboratory services, to include the main lab, oncology and waived testing, was awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site inspection.
The laboratory’s medical director, Evander A. Boynton, III, MD, says he is proud that Lakeland Regional is among the elite to be recognized by one of the most respected and recognized laboratory accreditation programs in the world.
“I am pleased that all the hard work by everyone in the lab has been recognized and that our lab services will continue to be known for offering the highest standard of care for our patients,” said Dr. Boynton.
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program began in the early 1960s, and is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, in addition to the overall management of the laboratory.
At Lakeland Regional, our core purpose is to improve lives by delivering exceptional health care – and this accreditation is yet another way we are showcasing our commitment to our patients.
