Lakeland Regional Cancer Center Hosts Urologic Oncology Symposium

Lakeland Regional Cancer Center will be hosting a Urologic Oncology Symposium on Challenges in the Management of Bladder Cancer Patients on January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This CME program will include discussion on the management of high risk disease, chemotherapy alternatives, the management of the elderly patient and BCG failures.  Colin P. Dinney, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston will be the keynote speaker.  Dr. Dinney will speak on the treatment of T1 high risk disease.  In addition, Dr. Graham Greene will speak on surgical management of the elderly patient and Dr. Sushma Nakka will speak on chemotherapy for advanced bladder cancer. 

Dr. Dinney received his MD from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.  He completed an internship, was a research fellow, and a member of the Faculty of Medicine in the Department of Surgery, all at Dalhousie University in Halifax.  Dr. Dinney also completed a Fellowship at the Department of Urology at M.D. Anderson University in Houston.  He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and has published extensively in the field of urologic oncology.  In addition to being the Chairman of the Department of Urology, Dr. Dinney is also a professor at M.D. Anderson’s Department of Cancer Biology, Division of Basic Science Research. 

Dr. Graham Greene is a Urologic Oncologist at Lakeland Regional Cancer Center.  Dr. Greene’s specialties are Robotic Assisted Prostatectomies, Continent Urinary Diversions for both men and women, Cystectomies, Cryotherapy, brachytherapy, and advanced urologic renal and adrenal cancers.  He has published numerous works, and has participated in several clinical trials during his career.

Dr. Sushma Nakka is a hematologist oncologist and palliative care specialist at Lakeland Regional Cancer Center.  Specializing in the relief of symptoms related to cancer like pain, shortness of breath, fatigue and nausea, Dr. Nakka helps cancer patients gain the strength to carry on with daily life. With physical comfort and family support always at the forefront, Dr. Nakka also provides patients and families with the latest information for making important medical decisions regarding their care.

The program will provide four CME hours and lunch will be provided.  Physicians interested in attending can call 863-904-1821 to register.
