Lakeland Regional tips its hat to Alexandra Suarez, better known as “Alex,” for being named employee of the month in May. Alex has been a part of the Lakeland Regional family since 1999, first serving as a patient care assistant and now also as a health unit coordinator (HUC).
As a HUC in the 3 East Palliative Care Unit, part of her duties are gathering charts for oncoming patients to the unit, transcribing prescriptions, receiving and stocking floor supplies and answering phone calls to keep the unit running smoothly. No matter what is asked of Alex, she performs her duties with an optimistic outlook and with excellence.
“Alex is always cheerful, optimistic, and very compassionate. She excels in everything she does and patients adore her. She makes the whole shift better and I don’t know what we would do without her,” said Brenda Davis, RN, WTL.
“Alex has been known to hold the hand of dying patients, even when she thinks no one is watching. She is a beacon of love, a brilliant translator and exemplifies the best in all of us,” Laura Jordan, RN, 3E Palliative Care.
Although Alex is an extremely successful PCA-C and HUC, she has made it her personal goal to become a certified translator for Lakeland Regional.
On a personal level, Alexandra devotes her time to caring for her four children and mother. She enjoys writing poems, collecting pens and listening to music.
Thank you, Alex, for representing Lakeland Regional each day and for improving the lives of our patients.
