Center for Wound Care Recognized for Healing Wounds and Changing Lives

Wednesday, April 28 2010

Lakeland Regional Medical Center physicians, leaders and clinicians gathered on April 8 to celebrate LRMC’s Center for Wound Care.  Not only did the Lakeland Regional Center for Wound Care receive the Center of Distinction award, which was given in recognition of its high patient satisfaction rates, exceptional healing results, and outstanding clinical outcomes over the past 12 months, but because this is the second consecutive year that the Center has received this award, the Center was also presented with the Robert A. Warriner, M.D., Center of Excellence award. This award is given to Centers with 24 consecutive months of high patient satisfaction rates, exceptional healing results, and outstanding clinical outcomes, and is named after renowned wound care expert Dr. Robert Warriner, chief medical officer for Diversified Clinical Services (DCS).

Less than 5 percent of all wound care centers earn the Robert A Warriner, M.D., Center of Excellence award.

Both prestigious honors were presented to the Wound Care Center by Jim Henry, founder of DCS, the Center’s partner in wound healing.

“You are a model from our perspective,” Mr. Henry said of LRMC’s Center for Wound Care.  “You are really setting a high standard and doing things that are unique and innovative.”

When speaking about the criteria for the award, Mr. Henry highlighted the following benchmarks and how LRMC’s Wound Care Center compared.  In regard to the percentage of patients who must go beyond the traditional number of days to treat a wound, the benchmark is 32.4 percent, while only 13 percent of LRMC patients fell into this category.  The benchmark for days to heal is 47.4 days, while LRMC fell well below that at 36 days.  LRMC’s patient satisfaction rate came in at an astounding 96.4 percent, exceeding the benchmark of 91.5 percent.  Finally, under the category of wounds healed, the benchmark is 79.5 percent, and LRMC overwhelming surpassed this at 90 percent.

Lakeland Regional President/CEO Jack Stephens, VP Operations Hugh Autry, Center for Wound Care Director Ken Maroney and the Center’s inpatient and outpatient staff were on hand to accept the award at a brief ceremony.

“We strive daily to ensure our patients get the best care to heal as quickly as possible,” said Maroney. ”Achieving the Robert A. Warriner award gives our staff, our patients and our referring physicians the added peace of mind that Lakeland Regional has the data to support our claim of excellent care at an excellent facility.”
