We Promise to...

At Lakeland Regional, we are at the forefront of change. We are re-examining how we do things for patients and their families, and ultimately, for the benefit of our community as a whole. We recognize that to be effective, this change must start from within.

We researched, read, discussed and tested. We examined ourselves, as individuals and team members, and discovered key motivators to bringing our best every day – for ourselves, our colleagues, our community, and, most of all, for our patients and their families.

Out of all of this, Dr. Joanne Duffy’s Quality-Caring Model© made a significant impression on our team. What resonated most was the relationship-centered focus of Duffy’s model, which highlights caring for patients and families, caring for self, caring for our health team and caring for the community.

Inspired – because the model puts into words what we strongly believe to be the best way to provide care – our team acted. Individuals from human resources, public relations, information technology, nursing, clinical services, support services and financial services participated in focus groups in order to craft a compelling message for our change.

Then, our team of more than 4,500 made the commitment. Of time. Of passion. Of education. Of understanding. Of change. We did – and are doing – the work.

We found, at the foundation of our collective inspiration, consistency: relationships. Using relationships as our muse, Lakeland Regional developed and adopted “We Promise” statements that will shape our culture.

We promise…

  • to treasure all people as uniquely created
  • to nurture, educate and guide with integrity
  • to inspire each and every one of us to do our very best

These are our promises to you, to our community, and to ourselves. You will see these promises prominently displayed on our walls, within our elevators, and exhibited in our people. At Lakeland Regional, our culture will revolve around these “We Promise” statements. Accordingly, they will be at the heart of our care-taking, our decisions, and our interactions every day.

Shannon, thank you for taking the time to offer this wonderful feedback about the teams who cared for your father. Your words are a clear indicator of the Promises we strive to uphold for ourselves, our colleagues, our community, and, most of all, our patients and their families. The fact that your mother has such a strong nursing background herself shows the high expectations you have for your care teams! Please know I have taken note of these names and will certainly follow up with the manager on this unit and others to share these words. I wish you and your family the very best!

Hello Janet,

I asked who I might comment to about the outstanding care on the 5th floor and your name was suggested.

On Thursday, July 18, my father, Robert Garde, was brought into the ER due to frequent black-out spells. He is 81 years old, and I thought perhaps he could be experiencing mini strokes. He was promptly admitted and moved up to the 5th floor where Dr. Vailoces, Dr. Owen, and Dr. Baddoura were overseeing his care. The decision for pacemaker placement was made. I wanted to thank the staff for taking such good care of my dad, the professionalism they displayed, and genuine caring I saw when doing so. He was discharged today and is home, so I brought a card up to the floor expressing my gratitude. However, I would like to bring to your attention some of the people who made his stay at LRMC the best it could have been. His nurses, Adam, Krissy, Marsha, Pam, Laurie, and Jenna (not sure of her clinical title), Tammy, and the other Pam (charge nurse perhaps?) are an asset to your team and represent the quality of care you strive for. Not only were his nurses kind and caring, but everyone I saw and asksed questions of on a daily basis demonstrated this quality, no matter where I was in the hospital and no matter what their job description was. My mother, Joan Carole Garde, was the Director of Nursing, Nursing Administrator at Bartow Memorial Hospital before she retired, so I have been in and around hospitals all my life. You have an excellent team at LRMC, and I wanted to take a moment to let you know the names of some of the people who make it so. Thank you so much for representing such kind and caring nurses, and providing an environment where they can excel.
