Ringing in the New Year means more to me this year than it ever has before. Let me tell you why.
This time last year, the Lakeland Regional Board of Directors and leadership team had big challenges set before them. We had a vision of how we could do our part to transform healthcare in our community, but it wasn’t going to be easy. It would take an immense amount of work, new partnerships and thinking like we have never thought before.
Our teams and community rose to the occasion.
I am so proud of what has been accomplished this year. Our Emergency Department wait times drastically improved so that 85 percent of our patients are now seen by a physician in less than 30 minutes. We opened the Lakeland Regional Family Health Center, which is serving more than 1,200 patients per month who otherwise wouldn’t have access to primary healthcare. Lakeland Regional became the first hospital in Polk County to go live with a complete electronic health system. We implemented a “Culture of Health” program to support healthy decisions for our employees. And, we formed partnerships that would transform Lakeland Regional into a teaching hospital in 2013.
In 2012, serious groundwork was laid for even greater innovation, changes, partnerships and exciting times ahead for our health system and the Lakeland community. Thank you to everyone who had a part in revolutionizing the way we deliver healthcare.
Here’s to our future.
Happy New Year!
