Senior Vice President / Chief Information Officer
Mary Carroll Ford is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Lakeland Regional Health Systems where she provides strategic and operational leadership for information technology; physician and clinical informatics; quality and performance improvement; risk management; health information management and reporting; and support for the organization’s day-to-day operations.
Since joining LRHS, Mary has launched several innovative initiativesthat have successfully removed barriers and enhanced the speed, accuracy and security of information and data flow. As part of this effort, she integrated risk management, quality, performance improvement, decision support and regulatory functions into a unified team with a focus on collaboration and strategy. This effort has led to improved support for finance, strategic development, compliance and clinical and support services. Moreover, she has secured $12.5 million in healthcare reform stimulus funding for LRHS by meeting Federal ARRA Meaningful Use requirements set forth in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Collaborating with the leadership team and key clinicians, Mary also led the historic digitization of Lakeland Regional with a single electronic health record system, resulting in 100 percent of our physicians efficiently entering medical orders electronically and full integration of all financial, operational and clinical systems. In addition, she launched the first health information exchange for LRHS and its healthcare partners with full participation from key community partners and providers. Mary has also brought her vision to create a “hospital without walls” to fruition, providing physicians with secure, instant access to clinical systems wherever they have Internet access.
Mary’s leadership, expertise and commitment to modernizing the organization’s information technology systems position LRHS to be at the forefront of the ever-expanding role that technology plays in creating, supporting and enhancing a world-class healthcare system.
